Purbanchal University (PU) organized an impactful interaction program on May 5, 2025, at its Central Office in Gothgaun, Morang, focusing on curriculum development and revision. The event brought together chairpersons of over two dozen subject committees representing faculties, including Medicine, Arts, Education, Law, Engineering, Management, and Science & Technology.
Prof. Dr. Biju Kumar Thapalia, Vice-Chancellor of PU, emphasized that curriculum development should be need-based, integrating local knowledge, skills, and experiences to prevent the brain drain of skilled human resources. He underlined the necessity of aligning curriculum frameworks with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and incorporating online teaching-learning modalities. He also acknowledged the critical role of subject committees in maintaining curriculum quality and evaluation.
Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of the Faculty of Education and the program’s keynote speaker, delivered a detailed presentation on higher education curriculum development. He highlighted that curriculum design is a multidimensional process, emphasizing quality assurance, SDGs, innovation, and digital literacy. He advocated for research-based, community- and industry-friendly education that prepares graduates to tackle future challenges.
Dr. Komal Prasad Dulal presented insights on the Labour Market Driven Program (LMDP) initiated by the University Grants Commission, linking academic programs with market demands.
The program was chaired by Prof. Dr. Medani Prasad Sharma, Executive Director of PU’s Center for Curriculum Research and Development, and the welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Minraj Dhakal, Executive Director of PU’s Research Center.
The event also witnessed the participation of Dr. Suresh Prasad Acharya, Chief Commissioner of the National Information Commission, who interacted with the attendees. Deans and senior officials from various faculties also actively took part in the discussions, making the program a significant step toward academic transformation and curriculum innovation at Purbanchal University.
